Two Brazilian citizens apprehended following attempted homicide in Santa Rosita

According to eldia.com.bo, the Bolivian Police apprehended two young Brazilian nationals involved in the attempted murder of Carlos Ruiz Lazarte Aponte, 20 years old, which occurred on Thursday 8 October at 19.30 in the Santa Rosita neighbourhood, municipality of San Ignacio de Velasco.

The crime was not carried out because the firearm intended to commit the attack jammed at the moment of the assault.

Identification through surveillance cameras

At a press conference, the general commander of the Police, Adrián Javier Álvarez Arismendi, explained that the identification of those materially responsible was made possible through the analysis of surveillance camera footage.

"Initial investigations are carried out until we manage to identify, in a first operation, 24 hours later at an address in the La Española neighbourhood, the involvement of a 17-year-old young woman, Dayana Peña Burgos, who in the police interview provides information for the full identification of those responsible for the incident," Álvarez detailed.

Those detained and material seized

In a second operation, agents apprehended the two Brazilian citizens: Alexandro de Olivera Rodríguez, 19 years old, and Yusef Alvis Salas, 17 years old. Both were found in possession of a firearm and 21 bullets.

Álvarez reported that in the coming hours a hearing on precautionary measures will be held for both detainees. In addition, he specified that two other persons linked to the case have been identified and are being sought.

New operations at borders

In light of this incident and other recent homicides, the general commander of the Bolivian Police announced that in the coming days new operational plans will be presented aimed at the country's borders. He indicated that police personnel are currently undertaking retraining courses as part of that preparation.
