Two Brazilians detained for attempted targeted killing in San Ignacio de Velasco
Two Brazilian citizens, one of them a minor, were arrested following an attempted homicide in Santa Cruz. Police warned of the expansion of narco-terrorist organisations at the border.

Jammed weapon saves young man's life in San Ignacio
On 8 October, at around 19:30, a 20-year-old young man was targeted in an attempted killing in the Santa Rosita neighbourhood of the San Ignacio de Velasco municipality, Santa Cruz department. According to El Deber, the victim survived because the weapon used by the attackers jammed, thwarting what the general commander of the Bolivian Police, Adrián Javier Álvarez, described as "an attempted targeted killing".
Investigations began immediately. Officers reviewed security cameras and, 24 hours after the incident, executed an initial raid on a property in the same municipality, where they found a 17-year-old young woman. In the police interview, she provided "valuable information" that made it possible to fully identify "the material perpetrators of the act", according to Álvarez.
A second raid on another property in the same locality led to the arrest of two Brazilian nationals: one aged 21 and another just 17. Both were found in possession of a nine-millimetre calibre firearm and 21 rounds, as detailed by the commander.
Police also identified two other people allegedly linked to the incident, who remain at large.
Álvarez was emphatic regarding the institutional message: "The Bolivian Police will not allow these transnational, narco-terrorist organisations, which have their operational base in the neighbouring country of Brazil and which seek to extend their criminal activities in the border zone of our national territory, to continue generating anxiety and fear".
