Former La Paz prosecutor remanded in San Pedro for alleged ties to criminal network
According to correodelsur.com, the former departmental prosecutor of La Paz Luis Carlos Torrez entered San Pedro prison on Sunday afternoon, where he must serve six months of preventive detention.
The measure was ordered by the judiciary after alleged links were established between Torrez and the criminal organisation which, according to the investigation, was led by former attorney general Roger Mariaca. The transfer was carried out from the facilities of the Special Force to Combat Crime (Felcc), where the former official had been held in custody.
Upon entering the prison, Torrez made no statement to the media. The Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating him for alleged criminal organisation and trafficking in controlled substances.
With this imprisonment, Torrez joins a list of former Public Ministry officials incarcerated for corruption in connection with drug trafficking and for alleged links to Uruguayan citizen Sebastián Marset.
