Former prosecutor Rojas Toledo detained in Oruro for alleged organised crime
The judge in charge of the precautionary hearing ordered the preventive detention of former coordinating prosecutor Israel Armando Rojas Toledo for six months in the San Pedro penitentiary in the city of Oruro, according to El Deber. The charges brought by the Public Ministry are trafficking in controlled substances and organised crime.
The prosecutor in charge of the investigation, Daniel Portales Barja, expressly requested the measure: "I request that your authority be pleased to order the precautionary personal measure, consisting of the preventive detention of Israel Armando Rojas Toledo for a period of 6 months in the San Pedro penitentiary facility in Oruro".
According to the charges, the alleged criminal organisation would be made up of Rubén Aparicio Villarroel, Róger Rider Mariaca Montenegro, Róger Alberto Zeballos and Martin Daniel Irusta Flores, all of whom have already been formally detained previously.
The accusatory document identifies Rojas Toledo as a "collector" for former attorney general Róger Mariaca, although it attributes that assertion exclusively to material circulated on open social media. The charges state that "the present accused would be identified as one of the main collectors in the city of La Paz for Mariaca" according to videos and posts circulated on Facebook and TikTok.
The Public Ministry did not have direct material evidence to support that role. During the search of Rojas Toledo's home, investigators reviewed four floors and found documentation, telephones, car keys, flash drives and camera memory cards, without the report mentioning evidence that directly linked the accused to trafficking in substances.
The charges presented to the judge are based on "the probable existence of a structure made up of several people and intended for the commission of offences related to the illicit trafficking of controlled substances".
