Prosecutor investigates whether Tatiana Marset violated house arrest by visiting Expocruz
The sister of drug trafficker Sebastián Marset allegedly attended the Expocruz fair and an auction despite being under house arrest. The Public Prosecutor's Office is seeking urgent reports and is evaluating revoking the measure.
Tatiana Marset at Expocruz triggers alert in Bolivian Public Prosecutor's Office
According to El Deber, the General Prosecutor's Office instructed an investigation into whether Tatiana Marset, sister of Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, breached her house arrest by appearing in videos and photographs at the Expocruz fair and at an auction held during the weekend.
The General Prosecutor, Róger Mariaca, confirmed that reports were requested "immediately" to determine what time Tatiana Marset was away from her home and whether she had the police custody that the judicial authority had assigned to her. "We have requested immediately the corresponding reports to see at what time, at what hour and whether she was under the care of the police escorts that could have been assigned by the judicial authority at that time," Mariaca stated, according to ABI.
Images circulated show the young Uruguayan woman touring the fairgrounds accompanied by a person whom she herself presented on her social media as her boyfriend. That presence allegedly generated the alert that led to the fiscal's request.
Mariaca clarified that Article 247 of the Criminal Procedure Code clearly establishes the possibility of revoking precautionary measures in the event of breach. If the infraction is confirmed, the judicial authority could order Marset's return to Palmasola prison.
The prosecutor also warned that police officers assigned to the custody of the defendant could face disciplinary proceedings under Law 101 on the Disciplinary Regime of the Bolivian Police, and even criminal liability, if any negligence in their duties is proven.
Tatiana Marset left Palmasola prison on Wednesday 19 August after more than five months in custody. She was detained as part of investigations into her alleged involvement with the criminal organisation led by her brother in Bolivia. Sebastián Marset was deported from the country on the same day as his arrest, along with other foreigners arrested in the operation.
