Daughter and mother sent to prison for parricide in Achumani, La Paz
A 25-year-old woman and her mother were sent to preventive prison accused of parricide and complicity in the death of a man in La Paz.
Mother and daughter detained for alleged parricide after staging a robbery in southern La Paz
A 25-year-old woman and her mother face six months of preventive detention, accused of parricide and complicity respectively, for the death of a man registered in the Pamirpampa housing development in the Achumani area of La Paz. According to El Deber, the Public Prosecutor's Office contends that the young woman shot her father and that both attempted to cover up the crime by staging a robbery.
Frank Vásquez, the prosecutor for crimes against life, explained that investigations established sufficient evidence to identify the daughter as the material perpetrator of the shooting. The mother, for her part, allegedly collaborated by hiding or moving the weapon used in order to prevent investigators from finding it.
"The investigative work made it possible to establish that the 25-year-old daughter would have been the one who shot her father and that subsequently the mother would have moved the weapon from the scene," Vásquez stated.
The incident occurred on 9 May. In their initial statement to police, the two women claimed to have gone out to dinner and that, upon returning home, they found the man lying on the floor without vital signs next to a revolver. The young woman initially presented the case as a robbery.
However, the reconstruction of events and the gathering of evidence led investigators to dismiss that version. The investigations conducted jointly by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Police pointed to a different hypothesis: the direct participation of both women in the death.
The Public Prosecutor's Office indicated that the weapon allegedly used was a revolver owned by the victim, who practised shooting sports. The authorities also noted that they continue to investigate the context of the incident, including initial versions that pointed to a possible suicide and other background information related to the case.
After assessing the evidence presented by the Public Ministry, a judge ordered the preventive detention of the daughter for the crime of parricide and of the mother for complicity. Both were sent to the correctional facilities in Obrajes and Miraflores, respectively.
The authorities emphasised that the case remains in the investigative stage and that further action will be taken to fully clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of the man in the southern area of La Paz.
