Community members beat three robbery suspects in Tarata; one dies
A 56-year-old man died hours after being detained and beaten by community members at the Santiváñez Crossroads, in the municipality of Tarata, department of Cochabamba. The incident occurred when local residents intercepted a group of five people—three men and two women—who allegedly had entered a home to steal, according to reporting by El Deber.
According to preliminary police reports, the group was travelling in a white car. After being discovered attempting to escape, the community members detained and beat the three men. The two women managed to flee the scene. The vehicle they were travelling in was set on fire and was completely burned out.
Officers from the Special Force to Combat Crime (Felcc) from Arbieto and Tarata arrived at the scene and found the three men lying on the ground with visible injuries. During the intervention they also found a revolver among the possessions of one of the detainees.
The injured were transported first to a medical centre in Tarata and then to Punata hospital. Juan Wilson P. F., aged 56, died hours later due to the severity of his injuries. The other two individuals involved, identified as Juan Carlos C. F., aged 39, and Rider Z. C., aged 45, remain hospitalised under police custody.
Police reported that the deceased had a record for aggravated robbery, serious and very serious injuries, and illegal possession and carrying of firearms. The body was transported to the morgue for medico-legal autopsy, which will determine with precision the cause of death.
The Felcc is continuing investigations and is awaiting a formal complaint from the alleged victims of the supposed robbery in order to clarify the circumstances of the incident and establish responsibilities.
