Three bullets kill man linked to Marset's criminal network in Santa Cruz

Johan Guzmán Parada, 26, was shot three times with a firearm whilst in a mechanic's workshop in the Zoo area of Santa Cruz. According to El Deber, a hitman entered the premises on foot and opened fire on the victim before fleeing on a motorcycle with an accomplice.

Prosecutor Yolanda Aguilera reported that an autopsy determined severe head trauma as the cause of death. Guzmán Parada's body showed four wounds: of the three bullets received, one had both an entry and exit wound.

Aguilera announced that a red pickup truck belonging to the victim would be searched on Wednesday. The vehicle had been transferred to police facilities on Tuesday afternoon, 13 October, following investigations at the crime scene. The mechanic's workshop will also be inspected to gather new evidence.

Nine people were brought to police facilities to give statements as witnesses, including workshop staff and customers present at the time of the incident. "Statements have been taken from them and there has been no need for them to remain in custody or for any other measures to be imposed," the prosecutor stated.

The motive for the crime remains unknown. In 2023, Johan Guzmán Parada was named as acting as driver for drug trafficker Sebastián Marset and as part of his criminal organisation, as well as having worked alongside Erlan Ivar García, known as "El Colla", who was considered Marset's trusted associate. Over time, the two became estranged and exchanged accusations. García is currently at large.

The Public Ministry and the Police are continuing the investigation. Aguilera also reported that DVR recorders were seized and requests were issued to obtain surveillance footage from businesses and establishments near the location of the murder.
