Cochabamba Prosecution investigates death of young man found strangled in Puerto Villarroel
The Departmental Prosecution of Cochabamba opened an investigation into murder following the discovery of the body of Dan F. G. P., aged 18, on Monday 12 October on a rural road in the Sacta Norte union, municipality of Puerto Villarroel, according to lapatria.bo.
The young man had left his home in his vehicle on Wednesday 7 October. From that moment, his relatives lost all contact with him, which led to a search that lasted five days. The victim's mother filed a complaint for the alleged crime of human trafficking to formally initiate the investigation.
During the course of the investigation, detectives found one of the young man's sandals inside the rural property of one of his friends. This discovery, together with statements obtained from Ryamir F. M., also aged 18 and identified in the initial proceedings, made it possible to direct police work until they found the lifeless body at the side of the neighbouring road.
Following the discovery of the body, a multidisciplinary team from the Prosecution and the Bolivian Police travelled to the scene to collect evidence. The subsequent forensic examination determined that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia from strangulation.
Based on this result, the prosecutor assigned to the case, Miguel Huaigua, and the departmental prosecutor, Casilda García Rocha, confirmed the expansion of the criminal case to the crime of murder.
