Oral proceedings in death of Miguel Coria begin in January in Tarija
Bolivian justice authorities set Wednesday 13 January 2027, at 15:30, as the start date for oral proceedings in the murder trial of Miguel Coria, a 37-year-old dentist from Jujuy who died on 25 April 2026 in the city of Tarija. According to jujuyaldia.com.ar, the deceased's family has been notified of the opening of proceedings.
The judicial notification arrived on Monday 19 October. With the date now set, the case advances to the stage in which the criminal liability of the sole accused will be determined.
Defendant remains in preventive detention
Moisés Márquez Calani, 42 years old, is being held in preventive detention at Morros Blancos prison in Tarija. The accusation against him is for aggravated murder on trivial and base grounds, treachery and cruelty, according to the classification established during the Bolivian judicial investigation.
At the end of August, Bolivia's Public Ministry concluded the investigative stage. The prosecution subsequently formalised the accusation and referred the case to oral proceedings.
In September it was reported that the court had extended Márquez Calani's preventive detention by four months whilst awaiting confirmation of the date of the proceedings.
With the opening order now notified, the hearings on 13 January 2027 will concentrate on the presentation and analysis of evidence gathered during the investigation in order to resolve the case.
