Trial for Miguel Coria's murder begins on 13 January 2027 in Tarija

Bolivia's Justice system set Wednesday 13 January 2027 at 15:30 as the date for the start of the oral trial for the murder of Miguel Coria, the 37-year-old Jujeño citizen who died on 25 April 2026 in the city of Tarija. According to todojujuy.com, the family of the deceased received the corresponding judicial notification on Monday 19 October.

"We have already been notified of the order to open the oral trial. It is scheduled in person for Wednesday 13 January 2027 at 15:30", states the text of the official communication sent to the parties.

The hearing will take place in person and will mark the entry of the case into its decisive phase, after several months of investigation and sustained demands by Coria's family.

Moisés Márquez Calani, 42 years old, is accused in connection with the crime. The man remains held in preventative detention at Morros Blancos prison in Tarija, and faces charges of aggravated murder on trivial and base grounds, premeditation and cruelty, according to the charges established during Bolivian judicial investigation.

At the end of August, Bolivia's Public Ministry concluded the investigative phase. The Prosecutor's Office subsequently formalised the accusation and the case was referred to oral trial. In September, the Justice system extended the accused's preventative imprisonment by four months whilst awaiting the setting of the trial date.

With the new judicial notification, the deadlines have been established in which the evidence gathered will be examined and the criminal responsibility of Márquez Calani will be determined.
