Police pursuit in Puerto Quijarro ends with Brazilian detained and stolen vehicle recovered
Bolivia's Police detained a Brazilian citizen driving a vehicle stolen in Brazil. The detainee was expelled and handed over to Brazilian authorities.

A 28-year-old Brazilian citizen was detained in Puerto Quijarro following a police pursuit that ended with the vehicle in which he was escaping overturned among tree branches, reports El Deber. The white pick-up truck had been stolen in Brazil minutes before entering Bolivian territory.
The incident occurred around 9:00 on the weekend when police officers were carrying out routine checks. Upon seeing the uniformed officers, the two occupants of the vehicle fled without stopping. The pursuit culminated when the men lost control of the pick-up truck and ended up off the road.
One of the two occupants managed to escape. The other was apprehended and identified as Nilton Escobar Damota, 28 years old. "During the pursuit, police officers managed to intercept this vehicle that was being occupied by two apparently Brazilian citizens, one of them escapes and the other was apprehended," declared Colonel Edson Rojas, director of Diprove.
Rojas explained that, following the detention, coordination was established with police authorities in Brazil, who confirmed that the pick-up truck had been stolen in the Federal State of Brazil moments before crossing the border. "Practically minutes before it had been stolen," noted the official.
The police forces of both countries coordinated jointly the next steps: Nilson Escobar Damota was expelled from Bolivia and handed over to Brazilian agents at the Arroyo Concepción border crossing point. The recovered pick-up truck was also returned to the authorities of the neighbouring country.
