Paz calls on Armed Forces to defend Bolivia from organised crime

President Rodrigo Paz reiterated his concern on Tuesday about the advance of organised crime in Bolivia and urged the Armed Forces to assume an active role in national security, according to El Deber.

"If we have sovereignty today, let us make our sovereignty respected through the development and presence of our Armed Forces, and especially the Navy, to build development and production. But if we want to produce or develop ourselves, our Armed Forces also have to be part of building a security to save the nation from organised crime," the president stated.

Paz assured that international organised crime aims to break democracy and the Constitution, "perverting" State institutions to generate, in his words, "a space for the development of crime" that leads to "greater disorder".

However, the Head of State highlighted that these organisations "are falling one by one", following the capture and expulsion from the country of several criminals considered dangerous.

"We started at the beginning of the year with Sebastián Marset and we have been defeating factors of distortion, of corruption and of failing the honour, dignity, ethics and morality of our society with fear and with death," he stated.

The president spoke these words during his speech at the LIII Anniversary of the creation of the "Eduardo Avaroa Hidalgo" Military Naval School, celebrated in Cochabamba.
