Rodrigo Paz urges regional governors and mayors to combat organised crime from Cobija
President Paz denounced links between state institutions and drug trafficking. He warned that lack of legal certainty is hindering investment.

Paz calls on subnational authorities to join the fight against drug trafficking
President Rodrigo Paz called on regional governors and mayors on Sunday to join the fight against organised crime, according to correodelsur.com. The president made the appeal during a ceremony commemorating the 124th anniversary of the Battle of Bahía, held in Cobija, Pando.
"I want the governors and mayors to help me fight organised crime in this country," Paz said before the assembled authorities. In his speech, the head of state denounced alleged links between sectors of the Public Ministry and illicit activities, including extortion of businesspeople and drug trafficking.
Paz warned that narco-terrorism is not confined to a single region of the country, but extends "in the east and west, in the north and south". He therefore emphasised the need for a coordinated response among the different national and subnational authorities to confront this problem.
The president also linked institutional security to the climate for investment. He argued that the absence of legal certainty erodes confidence in Bolivia and discourages the arrival of foreign capital. Guaranteeing conditions of institutional credibility, he said, is a necessary condition for promoting the country's economic development.
