Bribe rejected and arrest at Guapilo checkpoint, Santa Cruz
Three Bolivian citizens were arrested in the early hours of Monday, 12 October at the Guapilo checkpoint in the department of Santa Cruz, after attempting to evade a static anti-narcotics control operation by the Special Force to Combat Drug Trafficking (Felcn). According to lapatria.bo, the suspects offered a $2,000 bribe to police officers when they were intercepted whilst heading towards the Bioceanic highway.
The uniformed officers rejected the money and proceeded with an inspection of the vehicle. Colonel Dilmar Caprirolo, departmental director of the Felcn, confirmed details of the operation and specified that the three occupants refused to be searched at all times.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, anti-drug agents found evidence that motivated the formal arrest of the three individuals. Among those detained is an aviation pilot, according to reporting by Unitel. The three have prior criminal records for drug trafficking and robbery offences.
Caprirolo also clarified that during the entire intervention, no telephone calls were registered from the arrested individuals, ruling out that they had attempted to contact any authority to escape the procedure.
As part of investigative proceedings, police proceeded with the preventive seizure of the pick-up truck and five mobile telephones to advance with investigations.
