DIG operation arrests couple suspected of e-commerce fraud in Itapetininga

A couple was arrested in flagrante on Tuesday (6) during the Interposto Operation, conducted by the General Investigation Unit (DIG) of Itapetininga (SP), as reported by g1.globo.com. The action targeted crimes of criminal association and fraud in the purchase and sale of goods on electronic commerce platforms.

According to the Civil Police, investigations identified a stable and permanent link between the two suspects, directed towards the systematic practice of property crimes. At addresses linked to the couple, tools, electronics, appliances and beverages were found, stored for later resale on the internet.

The scheme investigated involved fraudulently obtaining banking data from third parties to make purchases on e-commerce sites. Other people were recruited to carry out purchases using their own accounts and received payment for their participation. After delivery of the products, the goods were removed and resold by those investigated.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of mobile phones. In preliminary analysis, police identified messaging app groups administered by the suspects, used to advertise and sell products obtained fraudulently.

One of the investigated individuals confessed to committing the fraud and confirmed that both the suppliers of banking data and the people recruited to make purchases received payments for their participation in the scheme. The Civil Police reported that there are signs of at least one more person involved still not identified, responsible for the paid supply of banking data from third parties.

The two suspects remain in custody and the Civil Police requested that the judge convert the flagrante arrests into preventative detention. The DIG of Itapetininga is continuing with investigations and is to analyse the contents of the seized mobile phones in search of new evidence.
