The Military Police arrested, on Thursday (8), a 38-year-old man suspected of using a fake uniform and a replica firearm to commit robberies in the Bom Retiro region, in central São Paulo, according to cnnbrasil.com.br.
Officers on patrol spotted a vehicle associated with robberies in the area. Upon checking the registration plate, they found that it corresponded to another vehicle — an indication of tampering.
During the stop, a victim recognised the suspect as responsible for the theft of his mobile phone and wallet. The man was wearing a uniform that did not belong to the Military Police and was carrying the replica.
The suspect confessed to the crime and admitted to having swapped the vehicle's plates to hinder his identification. The car was also seized.
The case was registered at the 2nd Police District as robbery, location and seizure of vehicle, and tampering with vehicle identification markers. The man remains at the disposal of the Justice system.
