The Military Police rescued a 24-year-old man held bound inside the boot of a car on Thursday (8), in Embu das Artes, in Greater São Paulo, according to agenciasp.sp.gov.br. A 37-year-old suspect was arrested and a 17-year-old teenager apprehended during the incident.
The victim had been kidnapped in the Capão Redondo region, in the south zone of the capital. Police teams were called by the Military Police Operations Centre (Copom) following a report of a vehicle involved in the crime.
During the search, police officers located a car matching the description given on Estrada de Constantinopla, in Jardim Independência. The driver attempted to flee upon receiving an order to stop, but was intercepted following police pursuit. No illicit items were found with the occupants during the initial approach.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, the police officers heard calls for help coming from the boot. When they opened the compartment, they found the victim with his hands tied.
Once freed, the man told police that he had been at a party with the suspects when a fight broke out. During the altercation, he was threatened with death, overpowered and forcibly placed in the car boot.
The suspects were taken to the 1st Police District of Embu das Artes. The 37-year-old man remained in custody pending judicial proceedings, whilst the teenager was transferred to Fundação Casa. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized.
The case was registered as attempted homicide, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, corruption of a minor, and an act equivalent to attempted homicide.
