Man found dead with stab wounds in house yard in Batalha, Piauí

The body of Edilson Paulo da Silva, aged 39, was located on Friday afternoon (25th) in the yard of a house in the municipality of Batalha, in northern Piauí, according to reports from g1.globo.com.
Sergeant Marcos Vale, from the Military Police, stated that the main hypothesis is that the victim was killed by stabbing. The exact cause of death, however, depends on forensic confirmation.
"We cannot ascertain exactly what happened. The neighbours reported that they did not hear gunshots in the area in recent days. Because of this, the suspicion is that he was killed with stab wounds, but only the forensic examination will be able to confirm," the officer stated.
The body was discovered after residents noticed a strong odour coming from the property and noted that Edilson had not been seen since the previous night. "The neighbours found the body. Since last night nobody had seen him," added the sergeant.
The Military Police reported that relatives of Edilson stated that he was a drug user and had a criminal record for robbery and theft. The force emphasised, however, that it is not possible to assert at this time whether these circumstances are related to the death.
The case was forwarded to the Civil Police for investigation. The body was removed for forensic procedures, which are to determine the cause of death.
