Father-in-law stabs and kills 26-year-old son-in-law on eve of birthday in SP
A 26-year-old man died on the morning of Monday the 21st after receiving a stab wound to the neck from his father-in-law, in the Vila Maschietto neighbourhood in São José do Rio Pardo (SP). According to g1.globo.com, the victim was identified as Fabiano Fernando Ponteado Lopes, who would have turned 27 on Tuesday the 22nd.
Fabiano's 21-year-old partner told the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) that her father, upon witnessing a row between her and her boyfriend, delivered the knife blow to the victim's neck. The suspect, Adriano José dos Santos, 48, was located, arrested at the scene and confessed to the crime.
Bloodied woman calls for help
The GCM was alerted by a woman who spotted a bloodied couple in the street. Officers responded to Rua dos Cravos, where they found the young woman distressed beside Fabiano, who was standing and disoriented, with intense bleeding from the neck.
The guards advised the victim to lie down until the arrival of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu). Other GCM units and Military Police vehicles were deployed to preserve the scene.
A Samu team arrived and provided initial care. An advanced support unit also attended the scene, but Fabiano did not survive his injuries and died before being transported. The Forensic Institute (IC) was called to conduct examinations.
Suspect found at girlfriend's house
After the attack, Adriano fled. Teams conducted investigations at addresses related to the suspect and located him at his girlfriend's house, also in the Vila Maschietto neighbourhood, on Rua das Orquídeas.
According to Detective Daniel Spessotto Bello, who is leading the investigation, the suspect confessed to the homicide in the presence of the police authority and stated that he had thrown the knife into a drain, without being able to pinpoint the exact location. "Searches were conducted at the location, but the murder weapon was not found. However, in the presence of the authority, he confessed to committing the crime and stated that he would have thrown the knife into a drain which he cannot pinpoint," Bello stated.
Adriano was arrested at the scene and taken to Casa Branca jail. g1.globo.com reported that it was unable to contact the suspect's legal defence by the time of publication.
Both had prior convictions for trafficking
Detective Bello informed that both Adriano and Fabiano had criminal records for drug trafficking. The investigation is continuing, with conclusions awaited pending the return of forensic findings.
"We will await the return of the forensic findings, but this is yet another successful operation by the General Investigations Department (SIG) that has managed to identify and already take into custody the suspected perpetrator of the crime—a homicide resulting from excessive force in what may have been self-defence on behalf of his daughter," Bello concluded.
