Gaeco arrests six and seizes luxury cars valued at R$ 5 million in operation against trafficking in Itatiba

Five luxury vehicles bearing the Ferrari, Porsche and Land Rover marques, valued together at more than R$ 5 million, were seized on the morning of Tuesday (15) during Operation Nexus, in Itatiba, in the interior of São Paulo. According to g1.globo.com, the teams also collected approximately R$ 177,000 in cash, portions of cannabis, crack cocaine and cocaine, mobile phones and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle estimated at R$ 140,000.

The action is commanded by the Special Acting Group Against Organised Crime (Gaeco) of Campinas, together with the Military Police. Altogether, more than 160 military police officers participated in the operation, alongside Public Prosecutors, to execute 26 search and seizure warrants and five arrest warrants.

Six detained, one arrested in flagrante

Six people were arrested during the operation. One of them, identified as Anderson Uchoa Rodrigues de Souza, was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crime of drug trafficking. The other targets of the arrest warrants are Maiara dos Santos Pedroso, João Vitor Giopapo de Oliveira, Reginaldo Pereira da Silva, Roseli de Souza Figueiredo and Geovane Aparecido da Silva.

The most valuable vehicle located — found in the residence of one of the investigated individuals — was valued at more than R$ 2 million. At the searched addresses, the teams also collected computers, tablets, chequebooks, invoices and accounting records.

Councillor, police officer and vehicle shops among targets

Among the addresses targeted by the warrants are the residence of councillor Carlos Eduardo de Oliveira Franco, known as Du Guaca, of the MDB, the house of a Military Police officer and the home of a couple pointed by Gaeco as leaders of the criminal organisation. Three vehicle shops — two in Itatiba and one in Campinas — are also under investigation.

Altogether, 23 warrants were executed in Itatiba and three in Campinas.

More than eight kilograms of cocaine seized

The searches resulted in the seizure of more than eight kilograms of cocaine, distributed in approximately 10,000 portions intended for sale, as well as quantities of cannabis and crack cocaine.

Organisation with 24-hour surveillance system

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the group maintained in Itatiba a scheme of continuous monitoring of security forces. Internal alerts enabled members to hide drugs, abandon sales points and interrupt trade when police officers approached the area.

Gaeco states that the organisation was structured in cells with distinct functions: command, money laundering, surveillance, distribution, logistics and operation of sales points. The investigation indicates that activities were concentrated in cities in the interior of São Paulo State.

G1 reported being in contact with the defence representatives of the investigated individuals until the closing of the report.
