Federal Police strengthen operation against fraud in firearms registration in Rio de Janeiro
The Federal Police seized four .38 calibre pistols on Wednesday afternoon (14/10), during new operations of Operation Polarity in two municipalities of Baixada Fluminense. According to gov.br, the actions were carried out at establishments located in Magé and Duque de Caxias.
The operation is investigating fraud in administrative processes linked to the acquisition and registration of firearms for Collectors, Sporting Shooters and Hunters (CACs), in the Sinarm-CAC system.
The shops where the pistols were found are accredited and authorised to sell weapons, but were alleged to have obtained the material using false documents presented to the Federal Police. The weapons had already been paid for and were awaiting the issuance of the Firearms Registration Certificate (CRAF) so that the buyers could collect them.
The first phase of Operation Polarity was launched on 4 September, with the execution of 20 arrest warrants and 26 search and seizure warrants in municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro and in Vila Velha, in Espírito Santo.
With the seizures on Wednesday, the total material collected since the start of the operations reaches ten rifles and 13 pistols. The investigations continue to identify other possible individuals involved in the scheme.
