The Federal Police launched Operation Hidden Arsenal on Friday (25/9) in Joinville, Santa Catarina, executing three search and seizure warrants issued by the 1st Federal Criminal Court of Ponta Grossa (PR). According to gov.br, the target was a scheme involving illegal rental of firearms, unauthorised operation of armed private security and irregular weapons trading.
The investigation found that an armed private security company, based outside Santa Catarina, had rented weapons to Joinville residents who engaged in such activity without any legal authorisation. The company also lacks a licence to operate in the state of Santa Catarina, constituting clandestine operation.
Another point investigated by the Federal Police is the possible sale of part of the company's arsenal. During previous inspections, weapons registered in the company's name were not located, and their whereabouts were not clarified by those responsible.
Those investigated will face charges for illegal rental and trade in firearms, as well as unauthorised operation of armed private security activity. The operation was coordinated by the Federal Police in Cascavel (PR).
