The São Paulo Military Police conducted Brazil's largest operation in Paraisópolis Favela on Friday, deploying 174 officers and 61 vehicles.
Large-scale operation surrounds Paraisópolis on Friday
The São Paulo Military Police launched, on the morning of Friday, 25 September, the largest organised crime combat operation ever carried out in Paraisópolis Favela in the south zone of the capital. According to revistaoeste.com, the operation mobilised 174 officers, 61 vehicles, one aircraft, a drone and 16 dogs.
So far, officers have arrested one man with a warrant issued by the Paraná courts for robbery. Teams from the 16th Battalion of Military Police/Mobile Unit are surrounding the entrances and exits of the community to prevent escapes.
The operation has support from the Western Emergency Enforcement Centre, the Central Kennel, from Emergency Police Forces with dogs from the capital and Metropolitan Region, as well as the Eagle Eye system from the Central Operations Command. Drugs seized during the operation are being sent to the 89th Police District in Portal do Morumbi.
Colonel Ives Minosso, commander of the 16th Battalion of Military Police/Mobile Unit, highlighted the scale of the joint effort. "The scale of this operation shows the importance of integration between units," he stated.
The Secretary of Public Security, Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves, outlined the targets of the operation. "The objective of the operation is to guarantee the safety of residents and dismantle criminal groups in the region," the secretary said.
