A police officer shot and killed his own father-in-law on Friday afternoon (26) in Guarulhos, in the Greater São Paulo region, according to cnnbrasil.com.br. The victim, Fábio de Lima, 45 years old, was found injured in the garage of the residence when the Military Police arrived at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Mateus Aureliano da Silva, 27 years old, had reportedly argued with Lima before the discussion escalated into a physical struggle. During the physical confrontation, Mateus fired a shot that struck his father-in-law.
The police officer also sustained injuries from the fight and received medical treatment. In a statement to the police authority, he claimed he had fired the shot after being attacked by the victim and in the face of an alleged attempt to take his firearm.
Mateus was arrested at the scene and remained in custody pending court proceedings. The Civil Police continued investigations into the case.
