A retired civil police officer was arrested in flagrante for femicide on Monday (28) in Cáceres, in south-western Mato Grosso, according to cnnbrasil.com.br. The victim, Noeli Simsen, 50 years old, was found dead in a hotel in the municipality.
The suspect, Ricardo de Souza Pessoa, 62 years old, is believed to have threatened his ex-partner on the day of the crime. According to the Military Police, he claimed that her vehicle could have an explosive device installed — a car that had been in his possession since the couple's separation, which occurred approximately five months earlier.
At the location, police found the victim's mobile phone with a message sent by the suspect: "be careful with the car, there might be a bomb there, since you say I'm so bad".
In light of the threat, the Bomb Squad of the BOPE was activated and deployed from Cuiabá to Cáceres. The block around the hotel was cordoned off as a precaution. After a complete sweep of the vehicle, the team found no explosive device or object that posed a risk to safety.
The car was then taken to the Civil Police Station for appropriate procedures.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the retired officer presented himself voluntarily at the police station carrying the weapon that is believed to have been used in the crime. He was charged in flagrante for femicide. The case remains under investigation.
