Service station defrauded fuel pumps in Campinas; owner arrested flagrante delicto

"Safe Station" operation uncovers fuel pump fraud and arrests representative in Campinas
Civil Police closed a fuel service station located on Rua Silvio Rizzardo, in Jardim Campos Elíseos, in Campinas (SP), on the morning of Monday (14), according to g1.globo.com. The commercial establishment was selling a volume of fuel lower than that recorded on the pump meters, and the station's representative was arrested flagrante delicto.
The action is part of the "Safe Station" operation, launched following anonymous complaints. In total, five service stations were inspected in Campinas and in Paulínia (SP). Irregularities were found in two of them, both located in Campinas.
Delegate Marcel Fehr, of the General Investigations Division (DIG) of Campinas, reported that, in addition to the fraud in the quantity of fuel supplied, the seals on the pumps were broken. "These seals are placed by the Institute of Weights and Measures itself so that the merchant cannot tamper with the interior of the pump, electronically or mechanically," explained Fehr.
According to the delegate, the crime does not allow for bail. The suspect is to undergo a custody hearing.
The second establishment with irregularities, located in Campinas city centre, presented a different problem: the credit and debit card payment machines directed the amounts to a CNPJ different from the one registered. "There was flagrant tax evasion, without payment of the taxes owed," stated Marcel.
The case of the establishment in the city centre was referred to Campinas City Hall for evaluation of appropriate measures. Fuel samples collected at the inspected service stations were sent for technical examination.
