The Civil Police of Minas Gerais opened an investigation following a report that a teacher at a state school in the Providência neighbourhood, in the North Region of Belo Horizonte, rubbed a test on a student's face. The report was filed by the student's mother on last Wednesday (16).
According to cnnbrasil.com.br's reporting, the publication had access to classroom security camera footage that records the moment when the teacher places the sheet on the student's face.
In addition to the police investigation, the State Department of Education of Minas Gerais (SEE-MG) opened a Simplified Administrative Process (PAS) to investigate the facts. The Metropolitan Region C Educational Superintendence took appropriate measures as soon as it became aware of the report against the teacher at Celmar Botelho Duarte State School.
The student's guardians were attended to by the school's principal, who recorded the report in a school record to proceed with administrative measures. The Educational Care Centre (NAE) was also contacted to provide support and follow-up with the student involved.
In a statement, the SEE-MG said that it "does not condone any potential misconduct" and emphasised that "schools and educators are instructed about appropriate conduct, with regard to the environment and interpersonal relations, teacher-student, teacher and work colleagues, as stipulated in the Code of Ethical Conduct". The department added that the PAS aims at "detailed investigation of the facts and possible accountability of the teacher, ensuring the right to due process and full defence".
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais reported that the case remains under investigation at the Specialised Police Station for Child and Adolescent Protection in Belo Horizonte.
