Four arrested for murder in Independência (CE) following escape and police siege
Four suspects accused of shooting a man to death in Independência, Ceará, were captured in Tamboril after a confrontation and police siege.
Suspects in killing of man sitting on pavement detained after fleeing into forest
According to g1.globo.com, four men suspected of shooting dead a 48-year-old man who was sitting on the pavement outside his home in Independência, in interior Ceará, were arrested on Saturday (17). The crime occurred on Friday afternoon (16).
According to the Military Police, information obtained shortly after the homicide indicated that the suspects had fled in a vehicle towards the rural zone located between the municipalities of Independência and Tamboril. Police located the car matching the description near the locality of Oliveiras, in Tamboril.
Upon noticing the approach of patrol vehicles, the four occupants abandoned the car, engaged in a confrontation with officers and managed to escape into a forested area. Information provided by residents of the region assisted in locating the first suspect, found walking along a road nearby.
Teams from the 7th Military Police Battalion, the Intensive and Ostensive Patrol Operations Command (CPRaio) and the Specialised Interior Policing Battalion established a siege in the area, resulting in the capture of two more individuals involved on the same day. The fourth suspect was detained on Saturday (17).
With the arrests, two .40 calibre pistols, one 9 mm pistol, one .38 calibre revolver, ammunition and mobile phones were seized.
The four were presented to the Civil Police of Crateús and charged with homicide. The PM reported that all had previous records for drug trafficking, robbery, torture and homicide. The circumstances of the crime and the participation of each of those involved are being investigated in a police inquiry.
