Three suspects arrested in kidnapping and murder of 29-year-old businessman in Rio Grande do Norte
The Civil Police of Rio Grande do Norte has arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Marcelo Silva de Oliveira, whose body was found buried in Macaíba in September.
Operation arrests trio suspected of killing businessman in Rio Grande do Norte
The Civil Police of Rio Grande do Norte carried out three arrests on Tuesday (15) in the investigation into the kidnapping and death of businessman Marcelo Silva de Oliveira, 29 years old. According to g1.globo.com, two arrests took place in Paraná and one in Natal.
The operation received support from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the Paraná Military Police (PMPR) for executing warrants in the state of Paraná. In addition to the arrests, four search and seizure warrants were executed in Natal.
Disappearance and location of body
Marcelo disappeared on Saturday, 29 August, upon arriving home with his family in the Cidade das Rosas residential complex, Jardins neighbourhood, in São Gonçalo do Amarante. Criminals approached him, placed him in a vehicle and took him away. The next day, Sunday (30), he was officially registered as missing.
On Monday (31), a vehicle identified by the investigation as possibly used in the crime was found abandoned on an unpaved road near a railway line, between Cajupiranga station and the Pium community, in Parnamirim.
On 1 September, Marcelo's body was located buried in a shallow grave on a farm in the rural area of Macaíba, in Greater Natal.
Ongoing investigation
The Civil Police reported that complete details of the operation and investigation will be released later, as inquiries progress. The motive for the crime has not yet been made public — police indicated that revealing this information at this time could compromise the investigative work.
The three detainees have been placed at the disposal of the Justice system.
