23-year-old American caught speeding at 251 km/h on A12 near Bösingen
A 23-year-old US tourist was caught driving at 251 km/h on the A12 near Bösingen FR – 131 km/h over the speed limit. Fribourg cantonal police arrested him and seized the rental car.

American tourist stopped on motorway at 251 km/h
A 23-year-old American was recorded travelling at significantly excessive speed on the A12 early Wednesday morning, according to 20 Minuten reporting on a press release from Fribourg cantonal police. At approximately 4.55 a.m., the tourist was driving from Bern in the direction of Châtel-St-Denis when a speed check near Bösingen FR registered his vehicle at 251 km/h.
On the section in question, the speed limit is 120 km/h – the man was therefore travelling 131 km/h faster than permitted.
Cantonal police stopped the vehicle shortly afterwards at Vaulruz. The driver, who resides in the United States, was provisionally arrested for questioning and was also issued a driving ban.
The responsible public prosecutor ordered payment of a deposit fine. The vehicle, a rental car, was seized; following completion of the proceedings, it is to be returned to the rental company. The 23-year-old will be reported to the public prosecutor.
