According to police, the alleged perpetrator fired at least 40 rounds from an AK-74 assault rifle at the revellers. At the time of the attack, significantly more than one hundred people were on the premises. The man fired the shots from outside the site.
Subsequently, according to current investigative findings, the alleged perpetrator shot at a vehicle with a pistol in a nearby car park — nobody was injured in this incident. He then fled the scene in his vehicle.
On Monday, the alleged perpetrator turned himself in to police. He is a 43-year-old Swiss national. According to investigators, there are no indications of another perpetrator.
During initial questioning, the man refused to make any statements about the alleged act, but did report experiencing psychological difficulties. The police stated that verified information about his mental state is not yet available.
Two firearms were seized from the man's vehicle, their type matching the cartridge cases found at the scene. The man also possesses two further firearms — all four of which he acquired legally some 20 years ago. Why he was legally permitted to own the weapons despite psychological problems is the subject of ongoing investigation.
The motive for the act remains unclear. There are no indications of political or religious motivation. The man is being investigated for intentional homicide and attempted murder.
