Drunk driver arrested on A2 near Knutwil – fire in Triengen
A 51-year-old Italian drove while intoxicated and without a valid driving licence on the A2. In Triengen, a wooden hay barn caught fire in the forest the same night.
Police operations in the Sursee region: arrest and forest fire in one night
As reported by Google News CH — Crime (de), Lucerne police have informed the public of two incidents in the Sursee region that occurred during the night of Saturday, 21 August.
Shortly before midnight, a report came in to the operations control centre that a vehicle was being driven unsafely on the A2 motorway in the northbound direction. A police patrol stopped the vehicle near Knutwil. A breathalyser test on the driver showed a reading of 0.74 mg/l. When the 51-year-old Italian was to be taken to the police station, he attempted to physically attack the officers. He was subsequently arrested. Further investigations also established that he does not possess a valid driving licence. The prosecution was brought in.
About 35 minutes earlier, at around 23.20, passers-by reported a fire in the area of Fuchshubel in Triengen. When emergency services arrived, a wooden hay barn in the forest was ablaze. The Triengen RegioWehr prevented the fire from spreading to the surrounding forest and extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently unclear.
