Fire disaster in Thusis: Four dead, one person in custody

A week after the fatal fire at a restaurant in Thusis GR, the Graubünden public prosecutor's office has arrested one person, according to Blick. The arrested person is in remand custody and is being charged with multiple counts of negligent homicide and multiple counts of negligent bodily harm. According to the public prosecutor's office, exactly how the person is said to have triggered the fire remains unclear.
The authorities also updated the victim figures: the number of injured is now six. The four deceased are a 32-year-old Portuguese woman, a 35-year-old and a 44-year-old Romanian, and a 57-year-old Bulgarian. Due to the complexity of the investigation, the public prosecutor's office said that nothing more can be said about the cause of the fire at present.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight last Friday in the multi-storey building in the Grisons municipality. According to initial findings, it began on the second floor. As the stairwell collapsed, the roof had to be opened with a crane. Approximately 100 emergency personnel from the fire services of Cazis, Oberer Heinzenberg, Ems-Chemie and Albula were involved in the firefighting operations.
14 people were able to leave the burning building, including eight injured – two seriously, two moderately and four lightly. The affected restaurant was known as a Portuguese establishment. Sympathy has been expressed both in Portugal and within the Portuguese community in Switzerland.
