Elderly fraud in Vals GR prevented: 20-year-old Ukrainian and German arrested
A senior reported suspicions to the Graubünden cantonal police – two suspects were arrested in Vals. Similar fraud cases have been increasing in St. Gallen canton recently.
Two arrests in Vals GR following prevented money handover
As swissinfo.ch reports, a senior contacted the Graubünden cantonal police in Ilanz on Tuesday afternoon. He had withdrawn several tens of thousands of francs from a bank shortly beforehand in order to hand the money to an alleged security officer from the same bank – but at the last moment he became suspicious.
Police patrols then moved to Vals, where the handover was supposed to take place. Around 21:00, a 20-year-old Ukrainian appeared at the agreed location. After a brief foot chase, he was arrested. At the same time, officers arrested a 39-year-old German man who had been waiting for him. The Graubünden cantonal police announced this on Wednesday.
The case is part of a series of similar incidents that occurred in St. Gallen canton in recent weeks. Since the beginning of August, fraud gangs have stolen an estimated 750,000 francs there. In a single case that recently became known, the sum amounted to a quarter of a million francs.
