Gunfire at annual techno party in Aarau: multiple victims, investigation underway

Google News RO — Crime reports that gunfire wounded multiple people in the early hours of Sunday at the margins of a techno event in Aarau, a city in northern Switzerland near Zurich, according to the cantonal police, which in turn cites the AFP news agency.

"Aarau: Gunfire at an event in Schachen. Multiple victims. Large-scale police operation underway. Stay away from the area," the cantonal police posted on the X platform, without providing further details at that time.

Incident at Aarau racecourse

According to Swiss local media, the ongoing police operation could indicate that suspects had not yet been detained at the time of the first reports. Swiss newspaper Blick reported that the shots were fired before 03:00 (01:00 GMT), at the margins of the "Aarauer Rave" event — an annual techno party held at the racecourse in Aarau.

The event attracted approximately 3,500 participants and took place on Saturday starting at 15:00, scheduled to end on Sunday at 02:00. The incident "is believed to have occurred at the racecourse," a police spokesperson, Vanessa Rumpold, told Blick.

"Bursts of gunfire", says witness

Rumpold clarified that police can currently confirm that "multiple shots were fired within a large group of people". A witness cited by the same newspaper stated that he heard "bursts of gunfire" at the time of the incident.

According to a later update mentioned in the original source, the toll of the event worsened: one dead and five wounded, with the attackers still at large, according to police.
