A 22-year-old woman was killed and five people wounded, some seriously, in a shooting that occurred during the night of Saturday 29 to Sunday 30 August at Aarau racecourse in northern Switzerland, near Zurich. France Info reports that the shots were fired on the margins of the "Aarauer Rave", an annual techno festival that had brought together around 3,500 people at the site between 3 p.m. on Saturday and 2 a.m. on Sunday.
The deceased victim "succumbed to her injuries at the scene", the Aargau cantonal police specified on Sunday morning. The five wounded — four men and one woman, aged 24 to 27 — were taken to hospital in a condition ranging from slight to serious.
Perpetrators still being sought Sunday morning
"The search for the perpetrators is ongoing", wrote the cantonal police in a message posted on X, specifying that their identities remained unknown. "The possible motives as well as the exact circumstances of the act are still uncertain", they added.
A police spokesperson confirmed to local media Blick that the shots "were fired at the racecourse", within a "large group of people". However, she indicated that the authorities did not yet know "exactly what happened".
"Several gunshots were fired", she specified, without providing further details about the circumstances or the weapons used.
