Firecrackers fired at police, burning emergency vehicle at Hardplatz
During the night into Sunday, around 3 am, violent rioting broke out at Hardplatz in Zurich district 4. As Blick reports, videos supplied to the editorial office show whistling fireworks ricochetting off the facade of a residential building on Hardstrasse and apparently being fired at police officers deployed there.
Near the incident, a police emergency vehicle caught fire. Further footage shows masked individuals smashing the windows of the vehicle, throwing firecrackers inside and puncturing the tyres. The exploding pyrotechnics ultimately ignited the vehicle completely.
According to Zurich city police, it remains unclear who was behind the attacks. The media office stated it would release further information by midday.
A resident expressed the suspicion to Blick that the rioting could be connected to a football match on Saturday. FC Zurich had defeated FC Thun 4:2 on Saturday.
