Aargau cantonal police announced on X "multiple victims" and declared a "special situation". According to information from the Blick newspaper, one person was killed; five others were injured, some seriously.
The report of shots fired was received by police at approximately 2:30 a.m. Aargau cantonal police initially made no statements regarding the perpetrator or any possible arrests. It also remained unclear whether the shooting was connected to the Aarau rave that was taking place on the site.
The area around the racecourse was cordoned off over a wide perimeter. Police explicitly urged the public to avoid the zone. According to BRK News, a Super Puma helicopter of the Swiss Army circled over the greater Aarau area; additionally, the cantonal disaster response unit was deployed.
"The search for the unknown perpetrator is ongoing. Possible motives and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear," wrote Aargau cantonal police.
