Shots fired at Aarau rave: one dead and five injured at racecourse

Multiple shots were fired at the racecourse in Aarau during the night into Sunday at around 2.30 a.m. According to 20 Minuten, numerous police cars, ambulances and fire services were immediately deployed. A witness on site reported hearing sirens "continuously". Aargau cantonal police classified the situation as a "special incident".
Shortly after 8 a.m., police confirmed one fatality and five additional injured persons, including several seriously wounded. These figures are considered preliminary. The police were initially unable to provide information about the perpetrators — the suspects being sought remain at large. The motive is also unclear.
The area surrounding the racecourse, the neighbouring swimming pool and the sports ground were cordoned off over a wide area. Cantonal police urged the public to avoid the area and increased their presence as a precaution throughout Aarau and beyond.
At around 8.45 a.m., a reporter from 20 Minuten observed a further police operation at the Suhr motorway exit — approximately six minutes from the rave venue. Three people were sitting on the ground, surrounded by heavily armed police officers, and were subsequently taken away. Whether there was a connection to the shots fired in the early morning hours was initially unclear.
According to BRK News, a Super Puma helicopter from the Swiss armed forces circled the greater Aarau area. Flight data showed the military aircraft making several passes around the city. Such operations are typically carried out with a Super Puma equipped with a thermal imaging camera (FLIR system), a searchlight, a mobile phone tracking device and a rescue winch, according to 20 Minuten.
A rave had taken place at the racecourse venue over the weekend. Police appealed to anyone with photographic or video material of the incident to hand it over to the authorities.
