Multiple shots were fired at a rave event at the Schachen racecourse in Aarau during the night. As reported by Google News CH — Crime (de), the Aargau cantonal police confirmed multiple victims on X and declared a major operation underway.
A 22-year-old woman died at the scene according to police information. Five other people – one woman and four men – are receiving hospital treatment for light to severe injuries. All those affected are resident in Switzerland.
Police spokesperson Vanessa Rumpold told Swiss media outlet Blick that multiple shots were fired within a larger group of people. Shortly after 7 a.m., a spokesperson for the cantonal police described the situation as a "special emergency". According to Blick, the incident reportedly occurred around 2.30 a.m.; multiple shots could be heard on a video available to the media around 2.35 a.m.
At the time of the incident, the event "Aarau Rave VOL. 7" was taking place at the racecourse, as reported by Swiss broadcasting company SRF.
In addition to the Aargau cantonal police and several emergency services, the cantonal disaster response unit and an army helicopter were deployed according to SRF and Blick. The area around the racecourse was cordoned off extensively.
"The search for the unknown suspect is ongoing. Possible motives and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear," the police stated. The authorities called on the public to avoid the area and requested individuals with photographic or video material of the incident to make it available to investigators.
