An 18-year-old Ukrainian woman was arrested on Thursday morning in Zurich district 9 after collecting 50,000 francs in connection with a telephone fraud scheme. This is reported by 20 Minuten citing a statement from Zurich City Police released on Friday.

An unknown perpetrator had previously contacted an 82-year-old pensioner by phone and instructed her to withdraw several tens of thousands of francs from her bank. According to Zurich City Police, the pressure was so intense that the elderly woman was later unable to recall what story she had been told. With the help of a neighbour, she alerted the police.

Under the guidance of investigation officers who responded immediately, the woman deposited the money in a prepared bag. When the suspect shortly afterwards took possession of the bag, officers intervened and arrested her in flagrante delicto.

The person arrested is an 18-year-old Ukrainian woman residing in Switzerland.
