Hacked reservation system: fraudsters promise hotel guests 250 francs

The four-star hotel Schweizerhof in Lenzerheide warned approximately 10,000 customers on Thursday about an ongoing fraud attempt. According to 20 Minuten, unknown individuals gained access to customer data from the hotel through hacked reservation systems.

Those affected receive a WhatsApp message promising a credit of 250 francs. To redeem the amount, they are asked to disclose personal details and their credit card number.

Hotel owner Andreas Züllig emphasises that the perpetrators did not extort any money. "Their aim was to obtain credit card and personal data from our customers," he told the "SonntagsBlick". According to Züllig, it is still unclear who is behind the attack: "However, it is certain that the sender is from abroad."

Already in April, 20 Minuten reported a data breach at Booking.com, in which booking details such as names, email addresses and telephone numbers are said to have fallen into the wrong hands. Such information allows criminals to pose as an accommodation provider and deliberately obtain further data or payment details.
