Arrest following two break-ins in one night in Laufen

As reported by Google News CH — Crime (de), two break-ins occurred in Laufen within a short space of time during the night into Saturday — a sports shop on Ziegeleistrasse and a garage business on Delsbergstrasse were affected.

Shortly after midnight, a first break-in alarm alerted the Basel-Landschaft police. Shortly afterwards, a second alarm followed, also in Laufen.

In the immediate vicinity of the crime scenes, police were able to stop and detain a teenager. The 17-year-old French national — according to his own statements — is suspected of having been involved in the break-in at the sports shop.

According to current findings by Basel-Landschaft police, a further, as yet unknown person is likely to have been involved in one or both of the break-ins. Whether there is a connection between the two incidents and whether further offences are linked to them is the subject of ongoing investigations.

The Youth Prosecutor's Office Basel-Landschaft has opened criminal proceedings against the suspect and is examining appropriate coercive measures.
