Second Sergeant Jaime Urrea Burgos was murdered on Sunday night in the municipality of Quilleco, according to puranoticia.pnt.cl. The officer, who belonged to Canteras Police Station of the 1st Police Station in Los Ángeles, was responding to a call about domestic violence when he received a fatal gunshot wound.

Public Security Minister Martín Arrau expressed his sorrow through his X account. "The murder of Second Sergeant Jaime Urrea Burgos deeply pains us, another martyr of Carabineros," wrote the Secretary of State.

Arrau emphasised that Urrea Burgos "responded to a procedure in Quilleco regarding domestic violence and died after receiving a gunshot wound whilst carrying out his duty to protect others".

The minister also called for an institutional response to the crime. "Chile must stand behind them. Support them with concrete action, give them the tools to face increasingly violent crime and restore respect for authority," Arrau stated, and extended his condolences to Carabineros de Chile and to the sergeant's family and friends.
