Carabineros sergeant shot dead on second domestic violence call in Quilleco

Second sergeant of Carabineros Jaime Ariel Urrea Burgos, aged 40 with 18 years of service, died after receiving a shotgun wound to the neck during an operation responding to domestic violence in the municipality of Quilleco, Bío Bío Region, according to cnnchile.com.

According to information provided by the Public Prosecutor's Office, officers responded for the first time to the address following a report of domestic violence. On that occasion, the alleged victim did not formalise the complaint, so Carabineros proceeded ex officio.

Minutes later a second call came from the same address. Officers returned to the location and it was during that second operation when Urrea entered a room where the suspect was located, who was carrying a shotgun. The man fired at the officer, wounding him in the neck.

The carabinero was urgently transferred to the Cesfam health centre in Quilleco, located a few metres from the scene, where he died due to the severity of his injuries.

The other officers present managed to detain the suspected shooter. The accused was placed at the disposal of the Los Ángeles Public Prosecutor's Office and will be formally charged with assault of Carabineros on duty with fatal results.

On instruction of the Public Ministry, the investigation was assigned to the Homicide Brigade of Los Ángeles of the PDI, with support from the Forensic Laboratory.

Urrea belonged to the Canteras Station, dependent on the 1st Police Station of Los Ángeles.
