Santiago's 11th Guarantee Court found Maickel Villegas Rodríguez guilty of the crime of kidnapping and murder of former Venezuelan lieutenant Ronald Ojeda Moreno, according to tvn.cl. The crime was perpetrated in February 2024.
The court established Villegas's participation in various actions linked to the criminal operation. Among these, surveillance work was established at the building where the former Venezuelan military officer resided, as well as his role as driver of the vehicle used to transport others involved in the incident.
Prosecutor Héctor Barros valued the outcome upon learning of the verdict. "We are very satisfied with what the court resolved, it is a forceful verdict. The evidence accounted for the facts we have established. What satisfies us most is that the family had the possibility of obtaining justice," Barros stated in words reported by Emol.
The Public Prosecution Service requested a sentence of 20 years in prison for the convicted man. The sentencing hearing was set for 15 October at 1:00 p.m., the instance in which the court will determine the final punishment that Villegas Rodríguez must serve.
