Four gendarmes detained over tax fraud in investigation involving the Army

Simultaneous operation in three regions results in four gendarmes detained
A coordinated operation between the Atacama Regional Public Prosecutor's Office and the Police of Investigations (PDI) resulted in the detention of four Chilean Gendarmerie officers as part of a case involving alleged financial irregularities against the State. The investigation, according to reporting by eldesconcierto.cl, also involves members of the Army and the Juvenile Social Reintegration Service.
The proceedings were executed simultaneously in the regions of Atacama, Metropolitan, and Biobío.
The Public Prosecutor's Office informed through its official channels that the actions respond to court orders issued in a case encompassing the offences of "tax fraud, bribery, criminal association and money laundering linked to the Chilean Gendarmerie, the Army and the Juvenile Social Reintegration Service".
The investigation began approximately two years ago, when the penitentiary institution itself filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office of Atacama. The Office of Internal Security and the Criminal Investigation Department of Gendarmería detected the acts constituting offences that prompted the complaint, the institution specified.
Following the arrests, the Chilean Gendarmerie issued a public statement regarding the conduct of its officials implicated: "We reiterate our absolute rejection and condemnation of any action that deviates from administrative integrity and institutional principles, reiterating that we will continue working permanently to identify all irregular conduct, reporting it to the competent authorities".
