Woman detained over crime against Venezuelan minor in Puente Alto and Buin
The Chilean Investigative Police (PDI) detained on Wednesday, 14 October, Francisca Ortiz Pérez, aged 30 and of Chilean nationality, on suspicion of involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a 16-year-old Venezuelan teenager. The crime occurred in late September in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, according to noticialdia.com.
The victim was at a party in the municipality of Puente Alto alongside a 19-year-old youth when both were approached by armed men. The attackers tied them up and forced them into a vehicle against their will.
Subsequently, the two youths were taken to a vacant plot of land in the municipality of Buin. There, the captors forced them to run whilst shooting at them. The Venezuelan teenager died at the scene after receiving at least three bullet wounds; the 19-year-old youth managed to escape alive.
The Metropolitan Homicide Brigade identified Ortiz Pérez through ballistics analysis, review of security camera footage and collection of witness statements. The arrest was carried out in the afternoon on Wednesday in the municipality of Macul.
Police sources indicated that among the main hypotheses regarding the motive, investigators are examining a possible conflict or debt linked to drug trafficking, although this version has not yet received judicial confirmation.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of Chilean courts for the corresponding detention review. The authorities also maintain an active arrest warrant against another person implicated in the crime. The identity of the deceased minor has not been disclosed by the security agencies.
