Pineda detained following motel incident in San Bernardo

The former footballer Jean Paul Pineda was detained by the Carabineros on Sunday after an episode of domestic violence, according to a report by chile.as.com. The incident occurred at a motel in the San Bernardo municipality, in the southern area of Santiago.

Around midday, employees of the establishment heard shouting coming from the room where the couple was staying. Upon approaching the location, Pineda reportedly left the premises.

The former player's partner filed a complaint at the 14th San Bernardo police station and was taken to a municipal health centre to document injuries. Pineda was arrested around 17:00 on the same Sunday and remained in police custody pending resolution of his legal situation.

On Monday, the former footballer would be submitted to a detention review and would be formalised before the San Bernardo Court of Guarantees. The charges imputed would be minor injuries and contempt of court.

The contempt of court charge is based on the fact that Pineda had an active restraining order with respect to his partner, issued as a result of a similar episode that had occurred previously. The case was assigned to the Western Metropolitan Public Prosecutor's Office, which could request preventative detention as a precautionary measure.
